Mission Statement

The Social Planning Council of Peel is an independent, non-profit organization that promotes social justice by facilitating citizen participation in the identification of social issues and in the planning and implementation of collaborative actions to address those issues.

Our Beliefs

  • Each citizen has the right and responsibility to participate in the decision-making process of government.
  • Each citizen has the right and responsibility to participate in the development of his/her local community.
  • It is the obligation of government to ensure that there is equal opportunity for citizen participation in all areas of government and community life.
  • It is the obligation of the citizen to monitor and address the government's actions in all areas of government and community life.
  • The provision of services and opportunities to individuals living and working in Peel should be equitable regardless of race, gender, creed, religious belief, ability, or sexual orientation.


Research

Examination of social problems and needs in Peel; development of options for addressing those problems and needs. Provision of basic socio-economic information on the Peel population.

Public Education

Dissemination of information on social problems and needs of the community in Peel and the options for addressing them. (Workshops, training, publications, etc.) 

Community Development

Facilitating coordination and cooperation among agencies in the social services sector of Peel; facilitating the development of new services/agencies in Peel.

Consultation

Provision of professional research and training services to community groups, public and private-sector service providers, and funders.
